Lincolnshire 11 Plus: Early Registration, Format and Preparation

Lincolnshire’s grammar schools share an 11 plus that tests reasoning only. The most important thing to know is that registration closes much earlier than in most areas: in the spring of Year 5.

Register early
Registration usually runs from January to the end of March of Year 5, and late registrations are not normally accepted. Put a reminder in your calendar for the January of Year 5.
What’s in the test
- Verbal Reasoning: a long multiple-choice paper.
- Non-Verbal and Spatial Reasoning: multiple choice, in timed sections, usually on a different day.
Don’t forget the second form. Registering for the test does not apply for a school place. You must also name the grammar schools on your home council’s secondary school application (the Common Application Form) by its deadline, usually 31 October of Year 6. Offers are made on National Offer Day, 1 March.
How to prepare for the Lincolnshire 11 plus
- All of the score comes from reasoning, so it deserves most of your practice time.
- Verbal: letter codes, number sequences and synonyms and antonyms.
- Non-verbal and spatial: NVR odd one out, rotations and reflections and cubes and nets.
